DRAWING

PHOTO 2
The digital black and white illustration to the left was my exploration of the value assigned with color. Value is essentially the darkness or lightness of the color when all color saturation is taken away. For example, the color yellow has a lighter/ higher value than the color blue or purple. In this digital drawing I wanted to take a colored photograph (photo 1) and draw it in black in white without changing the photo to black and white first. This was to fine-tune my ability to see the value of colors. Being able to see the value assigned to colors allows for better color contrast in your work and allows the artist to direct the viewers eye more intentionally to the focal point of the work. After completing my digital drawing I converted the color photo I used for reference into black and white (photo 2) to see my value accuracy.
