This mural installation was commissioned by the City of Hapeville as part of their beautifying the city initiative. This initiative was designed to make the City of Hapeville the home of the arts and the artists, while refreshing the facade of the city. The design was inspired by the fun, robust and modern ascetic that can be experienced throughout the city. The bright colors paired with the ease of arches conveys a mood of inviting energy and movement, which was the intention as I began this project. The city being so full of art to explore and experience I wanted to use my mural which attaches to much of this art city to encourage locals to find a new adventure. The interlocking arrows that meet in the center of the design that point in opposite directions are designed as directional commands to move, go, and act. These arrows paired with the arches are meant to illustrate the bounce or hop with which people should explore "the City of the Arts". The final aspect of this design that drives home the idea of adventuring through the city is the "slogan" painted on the outer aches of the mural which is paired with the connecting crosswalks. "FOLLOW THE ORANGE OR FOLLOW THE BLUE, THE ADVENTURE YOU CREATE IS UP TO YOU", this is the saying that pedestrians read as they literally follow the ORANGE and the BLUE crosswalks that connect to this mural. This is best seen in the original design mockup in Figure 1 below.
